HEATER
Hey! I'm Heather, AKA HEATER. Growing up as a classically trained musician, I pivoted to DJing and producing in my adulthood. I have had the privilege to play at various iconic venues across Toronto like Silver Dollar Room @ CZ, Nomad, Lavelle, DPRTMNT to name a few. I have also had the honour to open for several touring artists like Taiki Nulight, MOKSI, and Henri Bergmann. I have to say, I would not be where I am without the help of amazing community and mentorship at JSTDRMN. This is why programming and teaching this bootcamp is so near and dear to me and I can't wait to see you succeed!
Here's what we will be covering in each of the 3 weeks! Each in-person session will be ~3 hours.

In the first session, you will learn about DJ controller layout and the functionalities of every button. You will also learn basic music theory that will set you up for success to become a well-versed DJ. Your teacher will also touch on basic transition techniques and you will have time to play around, get familiar with the controller, and ask any questions you may have. You will get some group practice time as well as some one-on-one time with the teacher.

In this session, your teacher will show you some intermediate transition techniques and how to practice them. You will learn about musical phrasing, and the best places in a song to make transitions and set cue points. You will learn about set-building best practices and how to approach crowd-reading during a live set. There will be amble one-on-one time and group practice time. You will also prepare a mini-set to be showcased during the last class!

In this session, your teacher will teach you everything about self promotion and networking in the electronic music industry. You will learn the various types of people to get to know in order to get yourself gigs. You will also learn about professional equipment setup & commonly used sound systems. Your teacher will also show you various FXs available on a controller to add flavour to your set. Of course, you will get some one-on-one time with the teacher to practice and get feedback before your graduation gig.

Happy graduation! At the end of the bootcamp, you are guaranteed a performance slot at JSTDRMN's upcoming Showcase! And this is just the beginning.
